My submitted paintings have been recently accepted into 2 prestigious shows : NOAPS 14th Spring On-line art competition and exhibit and Annual Edmonds Art Festival Juried show. Bellow is my pieces accepted. Very happy and exited to be part of the both exhibit 3 years in a row.

MORE PLEIN AIR

Yes, this is the time for it! Sweet Summer is here and my classes was moved to a Fresh Air.
We paint outside in various parks of Seattle. Sessions always start with the demo. My students prefer to observe me to paint and then to apply the theory we studied prior, to their own canvases.
Before get committed to any color harmony or paint application, think of your design and a placement .
It'a all boiled to a composition. Things you have to consider in composition - unequal space division Creating a focal point, avoiding tangents,  active and passive mix, baselines and ground contours, counterpoint, directing lines, entering point, inequality, repetition with variety, rhythm, shape simplification, shape variety.

This is a case when a cell phone photo taken from the moving car turned into a studio piece. I'm fairly happy with the result. You can see this painting at the  Vernissage Gallery of Seattle Design Center and you can buy it directly and exclusively on line from this blog. Thank you!

Lightfastness ...

Today I had a question form my student  about lightfastness -   I must to admit that aways had a vague understanding of that term. Here is an answer.

"Lightfastness of a paint color or pigment is very important! It indicates how permanent, resistant to change, or how unaffected by light it is. Paint colors can fade or alter when exposed to light and time. This could change the look and quality of an art work.

The two most used rating systems are the ASTM and the Blue Wool Systems. The American Standard Test Measure (ASTM) gives ratings from I to V. (I excellent, II very good, III fair or non-permanent, IV and V poor and very poor).The British system (Blue Wool Standard) rates lightfastness One to Eight. (Eight being Excellent and One being the worst). "

Speaking of light...My Monday pleinair class started two weeks ago and it's going very well.

I can see how some of my students mood and attitude changing from being terrified and self-conscious of painting outside on public to just having fun and  letting go the fears of failure or pressure.

Surprise, Surprise :)

Surprise, surprise !!! Look who came back to the Blog! Yes, I'm back. There is so much to report, to share, to brag about, to gossip and to spill out . I do love to share, almost as much as I love to paint. That's why I teach. 

I abandoned my blog for a very simple and trivial reason: limited time and convenience of a facebook's  immediate feedback. 

Every time I wanted to write something and share art tips, experiences, discoveries on here , I would feel such an intense  pressure of trying to to catch up on all  missed times. That guilt would  torture me and paralyze. Solving this dilemma took me 6 months. But I'm back - Happy, elevated, elated and...engaged. Yes I'm engaged to a wonderful and caring man. 

A few weeks ago I took a workshop with a wonderful artist and beautiful soul -Ilene Gienger-Stanfield. I felt an instant creative connection with her. Thank you for sharing your talent, Ilene. Here is a series of pieces we created on the workshop. Very quick ( 20 -30 ) minutes sketches. I love to take local workshops, where I would not only learn a lot, interact with fellow artists, but also would acquire new students.

END OF SUMMER...

My dear friends,

Time to summarize this incredible, warm, sweet, full of success and surprises summer.

Where should I start ?

First I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my friends, family and mentors: my support system people. Thank you for all of your Love, trust and help!

This summer brought me great teaching and exhibiting opportunities.

I gained new talented students and have been invited to teach at Arts Umbrella in Bothell

Classes started on September 5th and we still have spots available. 

Participation in two Plein Air art festivals was a fun, amusing and rewarding experience. 

At the Cle Elum “Fresh Air Artists” festival I was very happy to win Best of Show and to receive a second place ribbon. At "Paint the Peninsula", the first annual Plein Air festival in Port Angeles, I won Best of Show for my painting "Drifting" and took second place in a quick draw competition for "Merlot". As The Best of Show winner, in addition to a generous monetary award, I will have the honor of having "Drifting" become the image on the label of "Plein Air" – a Special Limited Vintage Wine produced for the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center by Camaraderie Cellars.

 “Drifting” will also be featured in next year’s promotional materials for the Plein Air Festival. 

I also received " A Quarter Page Advertising Award " in Plein Air Magazine. I am grateful to the organizers, generous sponsors and juror of this event Ned Mueller for being given this amazing opportunity to participate with all of the incredible artists that were there. I am happy, honored and privileged beyond imagination to compete and win.
